What is a .xsd file?
XSD is the native file format for Pattern Maker (by HobbyWare), a popular Windows-based cross-stitch design program that was discontinued in 2019. XSD files store the full pattern grid, thread palette, backstitches, French knots, and metadata. This tool reads Pattern Maker v4 files, which covers the vast majority of .xsd files you'll encounter.
What is OXS?
OXS is an open cross-stitch format supported by MacStitch, WinStitch, and Cross Stitch Pro. Converting to OXS lets you continue editing your pattern in any of these programs.
What stitch types are preserved?
Full crosses, half stitches, quarter stitches, petite stitches, backstitches, and French knots — all preserved with correct orientation and color mapping.
What about encrypted XSD files?
Pattern Maker v4 encrypts the stitch grid inside XSD files. This tool includes full decryption support, so encrypted files open just like any other .xsd file.
