These swatches are approximations — do not buy yarn from them
No yarn manufacturer publishes sRGB hex values, Red Heart Super Saver included. Every hex below was measured by sampling the pixels of the manufacturer's own studio photo of the skein — an uncalibrated, JPEG-compressed image of one dye lot. It is close enough to plan a palette and preview a chart. It is not close enough to choose a shade you have never seen.
- Deep greens and teals sample too dark. Real Teal, Hunter Green, Paddy Green, Coral and Lavender each disagree with an independent reading of the same photo by up to 15 CIEDE2000 units — a different shade, not a different rendering. Across all three yarn palettes the sampling runs about 2.6 L* darker and 4.8 chroma units duller than a person reading the same photo — so relative relationships between shades hold up far better than any single absolute value.
- Dye lots drift. "No dye lot" on an acrylic band means skeins within one production run match each other — not that the pigment is stable between runs or across years. Two photo shoots of the same shade can differ by more than our sampling error.
- Solid shades only — 72 of the 116 colorways currently listed. The other 44 currently listed colorways are self-striping, print, camo or variegated. One hex cannot represent them, so they are named on this page rather than given a misleading flat swatch.
- Nobody has checked these against real yarn. No colorimeter, no physical skein. Before you commit to a colour, look at the manufacturer's own photo, or better, at a skein in a shop.
What this chart is good for: sorting a range, judging how shades sit next to each other, building a palette and previewing a chart before you shop. What it is not good for: matching a colour you cannot see.

About Red Heart Super Saver
Red HeartSuper Saver is the yarn most American graphghans are made of: 100% acrylic, worsted weight, machine washable and dryable, and stocked in almost every craft store in the country. The standard solid put-up is 7 oz / 198 g, roughly 364 yd (333 m). For a blanket that will be dragged around a house for a decade, that combination of price, durability and availability is why it wins.
For a chart-worked blanket the range matters more than the fibre. Super Saver's 116 currently listed colorways are the widest solid selection in the budget acrylic tier, which is exactly what a picture worked one block at a time needs. This chart covers the 72 solid and heathered shades with their manufacturer shade numbers — the number printed on the band, taken from the SKU, not one we invented.
These hex values are approximate. Here is exactly how approximate.
No yarn manufacturer publishes sRGB values. There is no official Red Heart hex list to copy, so every value on this page was measured from Red Heart's own product photograph of the skein: find the skein in the frame, mask out the paper band wrapped around its middle, discard the shaded underside and the specular sheen on the acrylic, and cluster what is left in CIELAB.
That is a repeatable measurement rather than a guess, and it is still a photograph — uncalibrated, compressed, lit by whoever shot it, showing a dye lot that will not come back. Measured against an independent human reading of the same photos, the sampling runs about 2.6 L* darker and 4.8 chroma units duller on average. Relative relationships between shades survive that; absolute values do not.
The shades to double-check
Deep saturated colors are where the method is weakest, and the gap is large enough to change a decision:
A ΔE above 10 is a genuine disagreement — a different shade, not a different rendering. Judged against the photos, neither candidate wins consistently, which means this is the accuracy floor of product photography rather than a bug we can fix. Do not choose one of these five from the screen.
Four subtly variegated shades also measure like solids and are therefore in the chart: Ocean (0995), Macaw (3944), Lapis (3977) and Mulberry Mix (3972). They are usable, but they are not flat colors.
What is not here
44 of the 116 listed colorways are self-striping, print, camo or variegated. They were sampled and deliberately excluded, because one hex cannot represent them and matching against one would hand a striped yarn to a plain block:
Zebra, Woodsy, Shaded Dusk, Reef, Primary Stripes, Wildflower, Sutherland Stripe, Polo Stripe, Retro Stripe, Rainbow, Jelly Bean, Mirage, Aspen Print, Monet, Artist Print, Green Tones, Bonbon Print, Mexicana, Blacklight, Americana, Camouflage, Pink Camo, Mistletoe, Day Glow, Jeweltone, Neon Stripes, Calm Stripe, Newspaper Stripe, Fruity Stripe, Favorite Stripe, Parrot Stripe, Bright Stripe, Newsprint, Forest, Peacock, Baby Rainbow, Fall, Purple Tones, Grape Fizz, Icelandic Mix, Latte Stripe, Cool Stripe, Flamenco Stripe, Derby Stripe.
Heathers, mixes, flecks, marls and raggs are included — they read as a single color at arm's length and work fine in a chart. Seven of the 72 are out of stock at the time of writing but still listed as current shades, and one — Flamingo (0259) — comes from the clearance range, so expect it to disappear.
Using these colors in a C2C blanket
Corner-to-corner crochet builds a picture out of square blocks worked on the diagonal, one block per chart cell. That makes yarn color the whole design: there is no thread blending, no fractional stitch, no shading. A Super Saver graphghan is exactly as good as its palette.
Two practical consequences. First, solids beat variegateds for anything representational — a striping yarn fights the picture rather than filling it, which is why the 44 multicolor shades are excluded here rather than merely flagged. Second, buy all the yarn for one color at once. Super Saver's "no dye lot" label means skeins within a production run match each other; it does not promise that a skein bought in March matches one bought in November.
Ready to design? The C2C crochet pattern maker works directly in these 72 shades, counts the blocks per color for you, and exports written row-by-row instructions alongside the chart.
The other two yarn charts
Super Saver is not the only worsted acrylic worth charting. Both alternatives are Spinrite lines like Red Heart, so they are stocked in the same shops and sampled by the same method:
- Caron One Pound — 46 shades in a 454 g / 812 yd put-up. Fewer skein joins on a big blanket.
- Bernat Super Value — 60 shades, unusually strong on heathers.
Shopping? Red Heart's current Super Saver range lives on Yarnspirations, Spinrite's own storefront and the source of the photographs sampled here — a real skein photo will always beat our swatch. Every other palette we chart, from DMC floss to fuse beads, is on the tools index.
